A Berkeley Institute student was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital after she was struck by a car at 3.50pm yesterday. The girl, who is believed to be 17, was walking in Pembroke, along Woodlands Road between Euclid Avenue and Astwood Avenue at the time.A friend said: “She flew like five feet. She was crying when I called 911.”Other witnesses said the female student was unconscious when the police and firemen arrived. She was taken to hospital with a laceration on one of her ears. The female driver of the car remained at the scene of the accident and spoke with police. She left the scene at approximately 4.20pm and did not appear to be under arrest. An area resident, who did not see the accident, said there have long been concerns about the road.“It is a main road into town so people drive really fast,” she said. “We have asked for go slow signs and concealed entrance signs. The students always walk along this road after school. Most stay on the sidewalk but some walk on the other side of the road where there is no sidewalk. People come flying over this hill.”
