If you thought last night's full moon appeared larger than usual your mind wasn't playing tricks on you.The apparent increase in size was due to the moon's proximity to the earth, the Astronomical Society of Bermuda has explained."The super moon was about 28,000 kms [17,400 miles] closer to earth than usual on Saturday evening. This made it it bigger and brighter than we are used to seeing it," said a society spokesman."The super moon appellation was coined fairly recently and is meant to indicate a full moon that coincides with a close approach. Higher tides result from this event but it has no astronomical significance."
