Heavy trade in Butterfield shares

Butterfield Bank saw 268,600 shares change hands last week, most of them traded after the bank announced a $207.6 million loss for 2010 on Tuesday.Investors apparently welcomed the bank’s claims to have put its troubles behind it and Butterfield’s shares rose three cents, or 2.5 percent, to $1.25 over the five days of Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX) trading.Telecommunications group KeyTech Ltd moved in the opposite direction, dipping 80 cents, or 11.4 percent, $6.20, as 4,200 shares changed hands.Also suffering a fall was Bermuda Aviation Services Ltd, which fell 20 cents, or 4.7 percent, to close the week on $4.05, as 1,500 shares traded.Insurer BF&M shed one cent, or 0.1 percent, to close the week on $14, after 6,142 of its shares were exchanged.The Royal Gazette / BSX Index gained 3.41 points, or 0.3 percent, to finish Friday on 1,120.94.
