Burgess relishing right back role, says Goater
North Village coach Shaun Goater has praised the versatility of Tyrell Burgess who has been converted from a flying winger into an attacking full back this season.Goater said Burgess is revelling in his new defensive duties in Village’s watertight backline and believes he has all the attributes to become an accomplished right back.“Technically Tyrell’s a physical, quick player who stands up and doesn’t dive in,” said Goater, whose team are leading the Premier Division.“He has a lot of the attributes that you require from a defender and very few people go across him.”Although his new role has called for Burgess to curb some of his natural attacking instincts Goater said the Bermuda international was relishing the –“different challenge”.“Tyrell has the composure of a forward and doesn’t panic when in possession,” he said.“He has to enjoy it and I think he does at Village. Maybe for another coach he would not enjoy it so much but he can definitely play that position.“I think he enjoys the –different challenge.“He is still a forward at heart and it does take time to adjust to a new position.”Burgess spent the 2008-9 –season playing for professional team Vancouver Whitecaps in the USL-D1 (now the USL-Pro League) where he made 23 –appearances before being released.Last summer saw him turn out for the Bermuda Hogges in the Premier Development League (PDL) before having trials in England at Conference side Gateshead and League Two outfit Barnet.
