Our T. N. Tatem students are very talented. Our very own Tyra Stovell, an M3 student, went away with one of our gym teachers, Mr. Bill Euler, to New York to run in a race on May 6. The meet ran from May 8 to 9. We got to interview her about this trip and this is what she had to say.

Danielle: Where did you go, exactly?

Tyra: White Plains, New York.

Danielle: What was the track meet called?

Tyra: The 43rd Annual Loucks Games.

Danielle: What was your first race?

Tyra: The 100 metre.

Danielle: Did you place?

Tyra: In the first part, I came second and in the champion round I placed sixth.

Danielle: And how many events did you do?

Tyra: Three events.

Danielle: Did you do any field events?

Tyra: Yes. The long jump.

Danielle: What were the ages of the other students you ran with?

Tyra: 16, 17, and 18 years old.

Danielle: So, was this event very challenging for you or was it more fun?

Tyra: Fun!

Danielle: Does this type of thing change your life?

Tyra: Yes, because I got a great experience.

Danielle: Have you ever been in an international race before?

Tyra: No. This was my first.

Danielle: Where is this taking you in your life now?

Tyra: I'll get go to more track meets and continue to compete against older people.

In May, Tyra qualified to compete in the Central American and Caribbean Junior Championship in the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean Union of Teachers Games in St. Kitts. Both of these will take place in July. This year, she has also set three new records, two school records in 200 metres (26.4 seconds) and the long jump (5.20 metres) and one Interschool Sports record in long jump (5.30 metres).
