Making money from Bermuda's forts

Bermudians are worried about money. We need to attract more visitors. We came up with some ideas about how to make money from our wonderful forts.

Working Fort

There should be people dressed up and pretending to work on a working fort. We can get the Bermuda Regiment to dress up as cooks, soldiers and other people carrying out jobs they do in forts. The Bermudians can fix up the forts and make them like Fort St. Catherine. We can have tour guides that can tell people things like when the fort was built and how long it was in use.

Gift Shop

There should be a gift shop in the fort. Tourists love gift shops so they can get some stuff for their family and themselves to remember their trip. We could even make a whole mall about forts!

Shoot a Cannon

You can put up a sign that says "Shoot A cannon For only $20". Of course, we would not use real cannon balls. When the person shoots the cannon you can take a picture so they can remember that exciting day. You can get a lot of money by doing that. For fun at children's parties, the cannon could shoot candy!

Fort Train

We can fix up the train in St. George's. The train could take people on a "Tour of Bermuda's Forts" and carry visitors to several forts during the day. Give them a map and a brochure and let them explore for an hour, then take the train back to the cruise ship. If the train is too expensive to run, then visitors could do a tour on their own, but they would need to buy a good map and have better sign posts.

Hire out the forts for special occasions

The forts could be used for special events, like Fort Hamilton is now. Some ideas are haunted-fort tours, sleep-overs, Easter egg hunts, Halloween dances, a Santa's Grotto, teenagers' discos or other parties.

If we use these ideas, our visitors can go home and tell all their friends what an exciting time they had. Then they will all come to visit Bermuda. With these ideas, Bermudians could enjoy the forts too!
