Clearwater athletes shine in US
In February 2008, three Clearwater students travelled to Boston, to the Reggie Lewis Track, to participate in an indoor national meet. Dage Minors and Kameron Creighton are members of the Bermuda Flyers Track Club while Nekeno Crieghton runs with the Pacers Track Club.
They competed against the best athletes in New England and tried their best. Dage ran the mile and he had a personal best time of five minutes and 23 seconds. He also ran the 800 meters and placed fifth.
Kameron placed third and fourth in his age group in the mile and 800 meters.
"We were nervous" said Kameron. "There were lots of people watching us and my throat was dry."
Best effort of the day went to young Nekeno Creighton, who came first in his age group, under-11, beating out athletes from all over Boston and the North East!
Just to show that their performance was no fluke, the three Clearwater athletes once again took top honours in the Telford Electric series of races at the National Stadium a few weeks later. Kameron placed first in the over-13 age group, while Dage and Nekeno sprinted home in first and second place for the 12 and under. Go Clearwater!
