Hammers bring academy to Bermuda
Budding Clyde Bests can learn how to play the game the West Ham way when the Premier League club host a Summer Skills Camp on the Island.
The camp is open to boys and girls aged eight to 16 and will be overseen by two of West Ham's Academy coaching staff from London and assisted by coaches from their International Academy based in the United States.
A coaching clinic will also be delivered by the Hammers coaches, which will demonstrate the club's philosophy of youth development.
West Ham's International Academy entered a mutually beneficial partnership with the Bermuda Football Association (BFA) last month.
The partnership will give the Hammers first pick of the national academy's best youngsters with Bermuda's players and coaches going in the opposite direction to gain experience.
West Ham, the former club of Bermuda legend Clyde Best, have arguably one of the most productive youth academies in world football. Six of the current England team are graduates of what has become known in the game as the Academy of Football.
BFA technical director Derek Broadley said the camp would be a good opportunity for Bermuda's young players to be seen by overseas coaches.
"These coaches work with players who go into the club's academy in England," he said, "so, for us, it will be interesting to get feedback as to how our kids compare to the English and US youngsters."
The Summer Skills Camp will be held at the BFA Field from August 23 to 27.
