Vallis slips at British Seniors

An up and down round which contained two birdies, a triple bogey at the last hole and eight other bogeys saw Robert Vallis slip down the leaderboard at the British Seniors Open at Carnoustie yesterday and miss the cut.

One of only four amateurs in a field stacked with some of the best veteran professionals in the world, Vallis carded a nine-over-par 88 on the tough Scottish links course to follow his first round of 77.

That left him in 123th position at 15-over par with a two-round score of 157. The cut fell at seven over par.

The Mid Ocean Club member suffered a disappointing finish to his round as he struggled to a triple-bogey seven at the monster 499-yard par-four 18th.

His two birdies came at the 383-yard 11th and at the par-four 472-yard 15th.

Vallis earned a spot in the prestigious tournament after winning the British Senior Amateur Championships last year.

Half-way leaders are former Masters champion, Berhard Langer of Germany and Corey Pavin of the US.

Both are four under par at 138. Pavin fired 69 yesterday and Langer 71.

Vallis caddied for Pavin when the American played in the Merrill Lynch Shoot-out at Mid Ocean Club in the 1990s.
