In 1849, the Pearl of Bermuda won the first internationally recognised yacht race. In 1945, Bermudians celebrated Victory in Europe Day, marking the end of the Second World War in Europe. In 1971, the replica of the Deliverance on Ordnance Island, St. George's was opened.
