No more multiple fines for unlicenced vehicle offences

Motorists will no longer rack up huge fines for repeatedly going through Electronic Vehicle Registration cameras, after Senators rubber-stamped new legislation yesterday.
The Traffic Offences Penalties Act, dubbed a "manifest injustice" by the courts after drivers found themselves fined many thousands of dollars, will now be amended after unanimous backing in the Upper House.
Also passing through yesterday's Senate sitting was the Public Holidays Amendment (No. 3) Act, which allows shops selling alcohol at cruise ship terminals to stay open on public holidays.
