Prison officers beaten up by youth offenders
Four youth offenders at the Co-Ed facility attacked two prison officers over the weekend.
Commissioner of Corrections Edward Lamb confirmed yesterday that an altercation took place over the weekend between youth offenders and two prison guards at the Ferry Reach, St. George's prison.
"Resulting from this, were minor injuries to two officers," he said. "The matter was successfully resolved and disciplinary action has ensued for the [youth offenders]."
He added that the youth offenders will be charged in court soon for the offences.
Television reports said that youth offenders blocked a toilet in the Co-Ed facility to lure a prison officer into a cell and proceeded to beat him up.
The reports continued that when a female officer arrived to assist, the youths proceeded to attack her and attempted to take her keys and free themselves.
Lt. Col. Lamb would not comment on whether the reports were correct.
