Sailors prepare for push

Sailors Tim Patton and Martin Vezina will be looking to make a surge up the leaderboard when racing resumes today at the Audi Etchells Worlds in Melbourne, Australia.

At the end of yesterday's opening two races, 2008 Canadian Olympic Regatta Kingston champion Patton was perched in 66th position while Vezina was a further ten positions adrift in 76th place.

Patton's best finish in yesterday's light air conditions arrived in the first race which saw him place 54th in the 85 boat fleet while Vezina finished 65th in the second. Earlier this week veteran skipper Patton warmed up for the Audi Etchells Worlds by placing 36th in an Invitational Race.

"If we can finish in the top half of the fleet, then we would have done very well because it's a deep fleet," the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club (RBYC) sailor said.

Peter Martin and Aussie David Morrell join Patton, who placed fourth at the 1988 Etchells Worlds in Sydney, Australia, onboard while crewing for Vezina are Alan Frith and Bill Gravelle. Past Americas Cup winner, John Bertrand, currently leads the overall fleet Down Under. The Aussie, who skippered Australia II to victory in the 1983 Americas Cup, will be joined onboard by multiple Olympic Gold medallist Ben Ainslie who finished third overall in last year's King Edward VII Gold Cup.
