Family Centre to benefit from annual event
The 11th annual Partner Re Women's 5K run and walk, will be held Sunday, October 12th, with all entry proceeds going to help The Family Centre.
The race, which is a women only event and presented by Mid-Atlantic Athletic Club (MAAC), focuses on female health, fitness and self-esteem.
MAAC, established in 1977, is Bermuda's largest running club and organizes a dozen official events on the annual racing calendar, including charity and children's races.
All entry fee proceeds will be matched by title sponsors Partner Re Ltd. and will go to The Family Centre, whose work is dedicated to changing children's' lives in positive and sustainable ways.
The main focus of their work is rooted in strategies for supporting parents so they are better able to love and care for their children. Between 80 and 90% of parents served by the Family Centre each year are single mother led households.
Organizers are hoping for another record turnout, with numbers topping the 100 mark last year. The event also incorporates a 3K run for junior girls, a 5K run and a 5K walk, with both corporate and school teams encouraged to enter.
Since 1998, the event has raised more than $120,000 for women's causes in Bermuda, including programmes to fight heart disease, confront physical abuse, support rape victims, educate teenagers, combat breast cancer, and fund equipment and initiatives supporting the treatment of women's health.
