Regiment to upgrade radio system

The Bermuda Regiment's ageing communications system will soon be getting an upgrade with a new radio system.

The new Sepura TETRA system will replace the existing VHF system, which was highlighted as one of the areas needing improvement in a recent report on the Regiment's Fitness for Role.

Adjutant of the Bermuda Regiment Captain Chris Gauntlett said: "The Bermuda Regiment has been in need of an updated communications system for several years.

"The Sepura Radios fit well with military applications as well as the Regiment's civil support roles and offer a remarkable improvement in functionality over the previous system, which had become obsolete."

Staff Officer Major Phil Burch stressed the importance of a reliable communication system, saying: "The relay of information in a military setting is essential in order to achieve any objective.

"Clear and reliable communications can be the difference between success and failure, so a robust and effective communication system is an absolute must have."
