A man was jailed for seven months yesterday for a string of robbery offences and assaults on police officers.

Neko Cann, 44, committed four robberies between February, 2018 and October of last year and attempted to steal a $3,500 motorcycle in October last year.

He was also found with tools in October last year used to commit the crimes.

Magistrates’ Court also heard that Cann prowled around a dwelling on August 28 last year and committed a similar offence in March, 2018.

He also resisted arrest on January 2018 and assaulted three police officers in the same month.

Cann pleaded guilty to all the offences in court appearances between November 6 last year and January 14 this year.

Elizabeth Christopher, Cann’s defence lawyer, told the court yesterday that Cann wanted to “try to make a change” by continuing rehabilitation for his drug problems.

Cann added: “I’ve made a lot of bad choices, but I’m not a bad person.

“I want to turn my life around. I’m tired of not living up to my potential.”

Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe sentenced Cann to a total of two and a half years, but said that Cann’s eight months in custody should be taken into consideration.

He ordered Cann to serve 15 months of the sentence and suspended the remainder for two years.

Mr Wolffe also ordered Cann to spend two years on probation.
