Lindo's issue special limited edition reuseable grocery bags for PALS

Bright change Zach Moniz and Ann Smith-Gordon with the new limited edition bags from Lindo's Group of Companies.

The Lindo's Group of Companies has announced that part of the profits from sales of a limited edition reusable grocery bag will be donated to cancer-care charity PALS.

Zach Moniz, manager of Lindo's Family Foods in Warwick, said he chose PALS because of the charity's reliance on public donations.

"It surprises me that as influential as it is, PALS garners 90 percent of its funding from what the community decides to donate to them," said Mr. Moniz. "Their volunteers have been there through the years for my grandfather and grandmother, and others in my family."

The president and CEO of PALS, Ann Smith-Gordon, said she was thrilled by the support.

"PALS has been caring for cancer patients in their homes since 1980, and with the large rise in the number of patients, the work we could accomplish for $500 a year now requires $1 million," said Ms. Smith Gordon.

The environmentally friendly bags, featuring artwork by Bermudian artist Stratton Hatfield, are being sold at Lindo's Supermarkets for $2.99, with $1 of each purchase going to the charity. Altogether 46,000 of the bags, decorated with images of Bermudian flowers, have been produced.

"We are so fortunate to work with Stratton on this design," said Ms. Smith-Gordon. "He created something that is both beautiful and distinctly Bermudian, and I hope people will buy the bag in support of cancer care in Bermuda."

While the PALS bags are limited in number, Mr. Moniz said that he could see releasing bags to support other charities in the future.
