Trinidad and Tobago defender Dennis Lawrence is confident Trinidad and Tobago can overturn their 2-1 defeat to Bermuda and come away with victory in the return leg of this Sunday;'s World Cup qualifier.

The lanky Swansea central defender, who scored the winner against Bahrain to send the Soca Warriors to the 2006 World Cup, said mistakes cost them the match last weekend and believes their chances are still good.

"Obviously it is not out of our hands," Lawrence told the Trinidad and Tobago Express.

"Now we've got the opportunity to go and try to make up for the mistakes we made in the first match, and try to be as ready as possible.

"We have to make sure that we prepare properly for when we come up against Bermuda on Sunday."

Lawrence said the current mood in the camp was one of disappointment after the top-ranked FIFA Caribbean Football Union (CFU) team surrendered to the Gombey Warriors on home turf.

"But we have 90 minutes to correct our mistakes in the first match. We want to go out and get our place in the next round," he said.

"Obviously we've got the talent. But I think we need to approach it with the right attitude, and there is no reason why we can't get a positive result."

The veteran defender, who retired after the 2006 World Cup in Germany only to return to wear the national team's colours ahead of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers, was also disappointed about the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation's (TTFF) decision to seek neutral venues for their home matches, as a result of the dispute with the Ministry and Sport and Youth Affairs over terms and conditions to use the Hasely Crawford Stadium, and other national football venues.

He described the situation as "sad".

"It is always important when you are playing (in World Cup qualifiers) that you play at home.

"It is a sad situation, having to play our home games abroad, but we have to make the best of it. I think right now, it is being dealt with by the appropriate people," Lawrence said.
