The West Indies legend is hoping to 'break 80' in today's Pro-Am at Port Royal Golf Course, and expects conditions to be tough for the start of the PGA Grand Slam.

Lara played a practice round at a windy Port Royal yesterday, but took time out to give his thoughts on the event at a press conference alongside Premier Ewart Brown.

"I'm not much of a golfer, I play off a five handicap, and with these conditions I can tell you it's going to be very tough for any amateur to break 80," said Lara. "I would love to break 80.

"But with the champions, Ernie Els, David Toms, Martin Kaymer and Graeme McDowell, who are playing over the next three days, I'm sure we are going to see a great spectacle.

"I'm looking forward to my round with the Premier, and hope all Bermudians will come out and support this tournament."

Dr Brown, meanwhile, who steps down at the end of the month, was full of praise for the condition of the course, and described the greens as "magnificent, inviting, if not a little bit difficult".

"I'm certain that locals and visitors alike will provide US Open Champion Graeme McDowell, PGA Champion Martin Kaymer, three-time major champion Ernie Els and 2001 PGA Champion David Toms a warm welcome," said Dr Brown.

"I want to encourage all Bermudians not to miss out on this opportunity to attend this incredible, fan friendly golf tournament.

"The Grand Slam will be broadcast worldwide and this is Bermuda's time to shine in the international golf spotlight, so I'm hoping to see as many residents as possible walking the fairways alongside our visiting champions."
