Hats off to the RAA seniors
The auditorium of the Royal Artillery Club (RAA) in St. George's was the perfect setting a week ago for a hat show that drew patrons from near and far.
The show was sponsored by the Seniors Activity Club of the RAA which aims at having a social or cultural event on the first Thursday of each month, when a free lunch is served.
The Activity Club, set up seven years ago, was the brainchild of Bandmaster Captain Horace Gibbons, MBE, an octogenarian himself and his fellow old soldier Milton Ming, who has since deceased.
Coordinator of the Activity Club is Mrs. Patience Godfrey; secretary-treasurer is Mrs. Betty Smith, and president Melvin Gibbons.
One of the highlights of the event was the call for all ladies present who were aged 90 and over, to for a special salutation. Five responded, and first amongst them was Mrs. Sadie Stovell, a sprightly and spry 100.
