College celebrates 35 years of progress
This month, while Bermuda celebrates it's 400th anniversary, Bermuda College celebrates it's 35th.
In July 1974, the Technical Institute, the Bermuda Hotel and Catering College, and the Academic Sixth Form Centre amalgamated to form the Bermuda College, creating a unified board of governors.
Over the years, the College has grown, creating a singular campus in 1980 and achieving candidacy status for accreditation from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges in 2005. Starting in 2008, Government began to offer free tuition to the College for qualifying Bermudians in approved programmes.
Minister of Education Elvin James praised the College in a statement to the House of Assembly Friday, congratulating them on their anniversary.
"We can rest assured that the Bermuda College is well poised to continue to fulfil it's mission and it's responsibility as a community college for the residents of this Island," said Mr. James.
