Fire damaged banana boat
A Bahamian cargo ship carrying bananas to Belgium caught fire at sea and sailed to Bermuda for repair.
There was a call to Harbour Radio last Wednesday reporting that the Segovia Carrier, a cargo ship travelling from Dominican Republic, suffered an engine room fire the night before and had no power.
The refrigerated cargo ship, of 15,834 gross tons, which originates from the Bahamas requested to divert to Bermuda for repairs.
In the interim of its arrival to the Island, a similar ship, the Sevilla, assisted the Segovia Carrier while it was at sea.
Meanwhile the Segovia Carrier's engine had resumed and the Bermuda tugboat, the Faithful, met up with both ships and assisted them into the Island.
The vessels arrived in Dockyard on Friday morning to unload equipment. The Segovia Carrier will leave Dockyard and go to Murray's Anchorage in St. George's for instructions and the Sevilla will remain in Dockyard for repairs.
