French academy side FC Sochaux lived up to their billing as pre-tournament favourites with an impressive performance against a spirited Colorado Rapids Under-15 team in the Clyde Best Tournament curtain raiser.

In last night's other match at the National Sports Centre, Scott Morton's select team, wearing the Island's home jersey, beat Devarr Boyles' side with first half goals from Somerset Trojans' Dante Brangman and North Village duo Jonte Smith and Jaquan deShields.

Tonight Morton's men face a stiff examination against a much physically superior FC Sochaux, while Boyles' boys take on a stubborn looking Rapids who showed an appetite for the battle.

Despite Morton's team appearing more fluid on last night's early evidence, Bermuda technical director Derek Broadley stressed that neither team had been put together to be any stronger than the other.

He said he was pleased with the displays of both Bermuda select teams, but admitted their real tests starts tonight.

"I don't think we learnt too much from the game between the Bermudian teams as they are so used to playing against each other," said Broadley.

"I though Scott's team started very well while Devarr's side came more into it after the break."

"As you'd expect FC Sochaux showed they are a very good side.

"Their players looked physically stronger than the other boys.

"Remember FC Sochaux are an established professional football club so these players are coming from a professional environment.

"But Colorado Rapids stuck to their task very well and showed all the typical American traits and refused to give in."

Tonight's matches start at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., while tomorrow's games begin at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
