Cougars CFU trip delayed
Devonshire Cougars will begin their CFU Club Championship qualifying campaign on Friday in St. Vincent and the Grenadines after Bermuda Football Association (BFA) notified the club of adjustments made to the qualifying schedule by the host nation.
The Premier Division side were due to fly out on Sunday and begin their quest to qualify for the tournament tomorrow against home team Avenues United.
However, they will now leave tomorrow and kick off thatr campaign on Friday against the same team, before taking on Leo Victor on Sunday and Joe Public next Tuesday.
Devonshire Recreation Club president Craig Clarke yesterday confirmed the changes to the schedule.
"The host country has changed the dates of the round," explained Clarke. "The BFA informed us that they are allowed to do so and we took the necessary steps to make the adjustments to our plans.
"We can't complain though as it gives us more time to prepare ourselves."
Cougars will join three other regional league champions in the first round of the qualifying competition.
The top two teams from the group will qualify for round two with the group winners moving on to Jamaica and the runner-ups travelling to Suriname where each club will participate in another four-team qualifying tournament.
The respective winners of these two groups plus a third group together with the best second-placed team will progress to the CFU Club Championships.
