Cambridge Curriculum experts here to assist schools

Two representatives from the Cambridge International Curriculum have been providing on-Island support for principals and teachers in preparation for the rollout in September.

The new curriculum is scheduled to be fully implemented in all public schools.

Roger Franklin-Smith and Gillian Moore have worked to implement the curriculum in other countries and were chosen by the Ministry of Education to head the implementation here. Education Minister El James said: "These two persons have effectively rolled out and implemented the Cambridge Curriculum in their respective jurisdictions. Needless to say, their support has proven invaluable for our school staff as they prepare for full implementation in September.

"We look forward to our students engaging fully in this curriculum as it will enable them to acquire the skill and knowledge necessary for their success in the 21st century."

Ms Moore is a group manager for curriculum and teacher support and leads the team delivering the Cambridge Curriculum in Bermuda as well as an online professional development programme.

Fully implementing the Cambridge Curriculum is just one of the Ministry of Education's priorities for the upcoming year.

Mr. James has said his Ministry will also be working on improving the quality of teaching and learning and strengthening site leadership. Additional priorities include facilitating the improvement of standards via accountability and transparency, improving the efficiency of delivery of the educational product and maximising the contribution of parents and the community.

In order to get more parents involved, Mr. James said the Ministry has launched a parent connect programme.

"This programme serves as an invaluable resource tool for parents who are not able to keep up with their child's schedule, assignments, grades and their day-to-day performance. Additionally, they can stay informed as to any disciplinary matters pertaining to their children.

"As you can imagine, this tool is raising the bar on schools as it also serves as an accountability and transparency tool for teachers and schools in general."
