New hearing impaired customer service introduced by CableVision

Bermuda CableVision announced yesterday that its customer care department has been equipped to help hearing-impaired customers.

A Teletypewriter system, which allows typed conversation over a phone line with someone with a similar device, has been installed. The Bermuda Islands Association of the Deaf (BIAD) offers the equipment for purchase to the hearing-impaired.

CableVision General Manager Terry Roberson said the new service will offer better assistance to customers who wish to ask about their account status or want to have other questions answered.

"We have been working with the BIAD, and we encourage members of the public to get to know this association and the services they provide," he said.

According to a CableVision spokesperson, around 1,000 people on the Island are hearing impaired.

The service will be offered on weekdays between 8.30 a.m. and 7 p.m. The dedicated phone line for the service is 296-0034.
