Bank plunges 11%

Butterfield Bank shares fell 11.1 percent yesterday as The Royal Gazette / Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX) Index dipped below 2,100 points for the first time since early May.

Butterfield closed the day at $4, after a fall of 50 cents, as 7,300 shares changed hands.

Bermuda Aviation Services Ltd. suffered an even greater fall on low volume. The diversified transportation services company fell 90 cents, or 15.3 percent, to close on $5, as 500 of its shares were traded.

The Index closed 95.52 points, or 4.35 percent lower, at 2,099.41. Volume was 7,800 shares and turnover was $33,275.

The BSX Insurance Index also finished in negative territory, dipping 3.96 points, or 0.4 percent, to close on 1006.91.
