Cross Country at Botanical Gardens Saturday morning

Golfers vie for Games spotAlmost 40 local golfers will gather at Mid Ocean Club next week to determine a team for this year's Island Games.

The 36-hole play-off will be held on Monday and Tuesday with four men and four ladies qualifying for the team.

The Games are scheduled to take place from June 27 to July 4 on the Finnish island of Aland in the Baltic Sea.

Bermuda will take a squad of some 140 to the Games, including teams representing volleyball, basketball, gymnastics swimming, athletics,shooting, squash, archery, badminton, sailing and possibly tennis.

Donawa, Smith fly Bermuda flag

Jay Donawa (above) and Kevin Smith will fly the flag for Bermuda at the North American, Central American and Caribbean Cross-Country Championships in Florida today.

The Bermuda pair will compete alongside athletes from the US, Canada and across the Americas region.

BTFA executive member Bob Oliver has travelled in his capacity as manager.

Scrumhalf Healy Hong Kong bound

Bermuda's Tom Healy (above) has been chosen to represent the West Indies at the Hong Kong Sevens tournament later this month.

Scrumhalf Healy was named in a 12-man squad that will compete in the tournament, which runs from March 27-29, for only the second time.

West Indies will play in the opening game of the competition against Kenya, and then take on Scotland and the USA the following day.
