BFA deal to send Island's best to play in US
Bermuda Football Association (BFA) are on the verge of signing off on a deal that will see elite youth footballers participate in the United States Soccer Association-Olympic Development and United Soccer League (USL) Super-Y League programmes this summer.
The ambitious initiative is among a host of short-term objectives outlined in the association's revised strategic plan geared towards raising local standards at all levels.
It is understood several USL Super- Y teams are now keen to have Bermudians, under the age of 17, join their ranks for this summer's youth programme.
The BFA have also been extended an invitation to send a young delegation to July's United States Soccer Association Olympic Development Region One Camp.
Local football's governing body have already drawn up an extensive list of objectives they hope to achieve over the next three-months.
It includes the recruitment of an educational consultant, completion of a travel itinerary for a proposed US Prepatory School Tour, present a domestic league restructuring plan to congress for ratification as well as conducting a complete review of the BFA executive and administrative functions to determine if structure is capable of delivering on the demands of today's football environment.
"This is just a ninety-day window in which the BFA plan to focus on some of the immediate short-term objectives which need to be achieved," sources told The Royal Gazette.
The BFA also intend to roll out a new marketing plan, stage a series of regional safety and security workshops, cement a proposed college showcase programme with the Bermuda School Sports Federation, have all national part-time coaching staff in place and all national squads established and in training, as well as implementing a national training syllabus in the upcoming weeks.
Bermuda Football Association Technical director Derek Broadley recently returned from a trip to the United Kingdom where he met with officials from Scottish Premier League clubs Glasgow Rangers and Hamilton Academicals as well as English Championship side Watford about developing partnerships with Bermuda.
Earlier this week he travelled to St. Louis, Missouri, with ex-Devonshire Colts player Darrin Lewis, now an officer for Physical Education and Health, for the annual National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) convention, where both men will work to create more opportunities for Bermuda players to win soccer scholarships overseas.
During the convention Broadley will receive his Masters Coaching Diploma certificate.
