Nusum and his Kixx are sure to be a tough test
Before I get into the topic for this week I want to say congratulations to all the school All-Stars from the weekend.
I hear it was some exciting soccer and the young men and women showed their talents and skills on the field. I hope the players are very proud of themselves for being All-Stars and treasured every moment of it.
This weekend was a great win for my professional indoor soccer team, Baltimore Blast, as we beat the Massachusetts Twisters – another new team that has joined the league.
With the first three wins behind us, and the team playing with confidence, we still have plenty work to do, the season is still very early. This weekend's game will be a tough one at home on Saturday as we face John Barry Nusum and the Philadelphia Kixx.
This is guaranteed to be an exciting game for the fans as both teams are built up of good veteran players and the last four years we have built up a good rivalry, as we are close in distance from each other. Despite we're first in the league at this time, the team is very aware that if we do not stay focused things could change very quickly, we must have a good showing this weekend. This week I want to talk about the importance of working together, making sacrifices as a person or player that would benefit your company or team. You may have all the talent but you have to make sure it blends together to be successful - that will always be a task. Some things do not happen overnight, and this will take time.
I tell you from experience, I have been playing professional soccer for 17 years and the first 12 years I did not win a championship. Now the last five years of my career with the Baltimore Blast I have won three.
I know sometimes you may feel that you have all the right tools and the best workers/players for the job but you have to understand things don't always come together right away. Just picture everyone being in the same boat, on the same course, headed for the same destination. This means everyone must row the same way at the same time for the boat to move, knowing that it would only take one person to lose rhythm for the boat to change direction.
We all have to be patient when we are looking to complete the same task, and be willing to help others along the way, because we all have different skills and strengths. Hence, we each have different roles to play and must play them to the best of our ability yet remain within the context of the team.
Remember, it's very easy to get off course by not working together, not understanding the job, by wanting to be a hero, being selfish, having everyone trying to steer the boat. Sometimes when you are more driven than a team-mate there is a tendency to not want to wait.
But you must be patient and willing to not only wait but also help that team-mate. That will be the deciding factor as to how far and how fast and in which direction the boat will go. Some of us are sitting in boats at this moment, whether it be your job, your sports team or family.
My team has its own boat and we're working hard to go to the final destination, which for us is a championship, but we won't get there if we are not all on the same page, working with and for one another. Until next time!
