Axis, Max, Endurance estimate quake losses
Axis Capital Holdings Ltd. and Endurance Specialty Holdings Ltd. are the latest Bermuda re/insurers to estimate tens of millions of dollars in likely claims from the last month's Chile earthquake and European windstorm Xynthia.
Axis estimates it will face net losses of between $60 million and $125 million for the 8.8 magnitude earthquake which shook central Chile, while its losses from the storm are estimated at between $10 million and $20 million. Axis said the losses would come primarily in its reinsurance segment.
Endurance has estimated combined net losses from the two events at $65 million, while Max puts its combined net losses at up to $20 million.
Axis estimates industry losses for the quake will be between $4 billion and $8 billion and for the storm, between $2 billion and $4 billion.
