The Pepsi Motocross Nationals entered its final four rounds on Sunday with the points leaders digging in against some strong challenges.

Kemo Simons of the 80cc class once again dominated with three stunning wins while Howard Paynter took a well deserved second overall on his Honda after he backed up a fourth in the first moto with two seconds behind Simons.

Russell Burchall showed some good form in battling with Jamel Hassell after two motos. However, a third in the final moto was good enough for Burchall to clinch third overall as Hassell had to settle for fourth.

Burchall had a fifth and two thirds and Hassell a second, fifth and fourth.

Chris Maxwell was the only other rider with a clean sweep, winning all three races in the 125C class while brother Leroy was second overall with two seconds and a third.

Mike Burgess (third, second, third) was third overall.

Donnie Moss welcomed some competition in the 250C class where he took on newcomer Jason Harrell and finished with two firsts and a second while Harrell had two seconds and a first.

In the most competitive class, the 125B, Robbie Smith got his third overall win in 1994 after battling Aaron Pace and coming out victorious in the first and last motos.

Pace, riding a bike with deteriorating bearings, held nothing back on his way to a first and two seconds.

Ras Mykkal and Devon Moss had a day-long dice together with Mykkal getting the nod for third while Moss was fourth.

The next motocross meeting will be held tomorrow at Admiralty House. There will be a clean-up at Coney Island on Saturday.

BOWLING BOW At the close of round two, Tools and Equipment have maintained a winning pace and have a three-point cushion at the top of the Miller league.

Last week they had a 15-15 draw with second-placed Gosling's, fighting back to take the third game and total pins with the third high team game of 950.

Dean Lightbourne led the league leaders with Hank Rawlins high for Gosling's.

Marlboro rolled to an 18-12 win over Stevedoring Services, taking the first two games with their opponents winning the last game and total pins, which was propelled by their high team game of 986 and 2,826 series.

Marlboro were paced by Doug Hines, rolling the top series of 603 with Richard Zuill close behind.

Marlboro managed the second high team game and series of 985 and 2,803. For Stevedoring, Ed Stovell rolled the top game of 266 as well as high series while Gilbert DeCosta was on his heels with the third high series.

After a slow first game due to mechanical difficulties, Terminators cruised to a 241 -51 win over Thompson's, their second win in as many weeks over the same team.

Steven Wales and Howard Francis paced the winners to a third high team series of 2,686 with Francis also posting the second high game of 257.

The fourth match saw Signature Card roll to a 26-4 win over New Mix Ups.

Again this was no match as David Abraham paced the winners while Lloyd Evans rolled the fourth high game of 239 for the losers.

The final match was also a no contest as Spoilers walked to a 28-2 win over Team Spirit who had two no-shows for their team, virtually giving the match away before they started. William Steede did roll the third high game of 246 to lead the winners.

Tomorrow's matches: Signature Card v Terminators; Tools & Equipment v Thompson's; New Mix Ups v Stevendoring Services; Gosling's v Spoilers; Marlboro v Team Spirit.

POOL POO Hamilton Parish set a new league record for points scored in a match as they demolished Frog and Onion 232-143 with Richard Foggo, Dion Burgess and Michael Burgess all scoring 50s during last week's action.

Frog and Onion were only able to win three of the 25 games.

Vasco II nearly upset league leaders Swinging Doors I. Going into the 25th game, Vasco were leading 185-181.

However, Gary Bascome defeated Carlos Veloso 10-1 to keep Doors on top of the standings.

Both Robin Hood teams stayed within one game of the leaders with wins.
