There the excitement is expected in the men's division, especially with top seed Ricky Mallory due to face tournament newcomer, and fourth seed, Gregg Frigerio, while second seed Mike Curry will go against third seed Ken McDonald.

Today's top match should see second seeds Mike Curry and Stuart Smith facing Bruce Fenton and Mark Melvin while the women's second seeds Jacqui White and Ailsa Campbell face third seeds Sheila Gomez and Suzette Edmead.

CROSS-COUNTRY CC Sharif Taylor ended schoolmate Collin Anderson's domination of the BTFA/Minute Maid Junior Cross-Country Series on Saturday when he defeated the latter in an exciting sprint finish at Horseshoe Bay.

Anderson had won each of the two previous races for Secondary School boys, but on this occassion found Taylor in a not-so-generous mood. Trevor Hedges finished third.

There were no such upsets among the girls as Suella Matthews recorded her third straight triumph, beating Heidi Madeiros into second place over the two-and-a-half-mile course, followed by Tiffany Scraders.

Jeremiah Smith and Velvet Smith captured the Primary Schools boys and girls categories. P.J. Thomas and Frazer Hunt were second and third respectively in the boys' race while former girls winner Sherrie Seymour was second and Tahmeaka Thomas third.

Meanwhile, Marco Perinchief ran uncontested to seize the Junior Men's group.

The next race will take place on November 7 at Spittal Pond, starting at 9 a.m.

Kavin Smith dashed to his third victory of the BTFA/Federal Express Senior Cross-Country Series, beating nearest challenger Tracy Wright by more than a minute.

Smith clocked a time of 32 minutes, 32 seconds over the five-and-a-half-mile course compared to 33:34 for Wright, who fought to hold off third-place man Tyler Hall (33:42).

Among the women, Anna Eatherley was again in winning form as she won in a time of 19:18.

Second was Jane Christie (19:59) and third was Julia Hawley (20:37). The women covered a distance of two-and-three-quarter miles.

BOWLING BOW The Bermuda Bowling Club's Hallowe'en Tournament on the weekend saw Joe Correia finish in first place with a 1,092 total pinfall.

The event was a great success with 100 bowlers participating, though the identity of many of the participants was a mystery until after the prize presentation when they removed their masks.

Some of the disguises included a fisherman with a real fish on the end of his pole, a child pirate who gave threatening looks to all, a nun, a woman just out of the shower, a military ghost and a clown from the circus were some of the customes worn. A total of 11 prizes were awarded.

The nine pin no tap produced some high games with Kendall Minors bowling a 300, Joe Correia a 298, Quinton Mallory a 295, Pat Price a 280 and Prudence Spriggs a 266.

CHESS CHS In Active Chess played last week, Richard Farleigh and Nick Faulks both won their matches and will play each other in the next round tonight.

Tied for third are Richard Black and Frank Ming with one win each while David Arorash and David Shanks are yet to get off the mark. Pairings for these players will depend on late entries who will start with one point.

TABLE TENNIS TEN In tonight's Bank of Butterfield Tournament Division, Wolves I play Southampton Princess I in the top match.
