Sailor takes ill at sea

drop off a sick crewman who suffered a stroke, a Meyer Agency spokesman yesterday reported to Docksider.

The 5,300 tonne ship was travelling to Dunkirk, France, with a load of petroleum coke from Darrow, Lousiana, in the United States when the crewman suffered his mishap.

The 42-year-old crewman was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital after the ship stopped off at Five Fathom Hole.

In other shipping news, Meyer Agency also reported that the Somers Isles arrived on Sunday from Florida with 81 containers.

Ten of those containers were refrigerated and there was also loose cargo composed of 32 bundles of lumber, 12 pieces of structural steel and a Suzuki sidekick.

The vessel will remain in Bermuda until she sets sail on Friday.

Container Ship Management meanwhile, reported that the Oleander set sail on Sunday for Port Elizabeth, New Jersey and is expected to return on January 4.
