A Police spokeswoman said the child's mother alerted the authorities after discovering bruises on the infant last Wednesday.

In other crime news, a painter reported the theft of a green knapsack from his Paget work site on Monday.

The complainant told Police he last saw the bag at 3.30 p.m. and discovered it was missing at roughly 4.15 p.m.

The bag contained an undisclosed quantity of cash, a black, Canon camera, a black cellular phone, a watch, a waist bag, and personal items.

Also on Monday a resident on Southcote Road, Paget reported the theft of an undisclosed quantity of cash from his kitchen.

And a Colony Valley, Southampton home was also targeted.

The male occupant told Police he awakened in the early hours of Tuesday morning and discovered his home had been ransacked.

An undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the man's trousers and wallet.
