The bank's share price had dipped, but gained $1 to close at $39.50. Bank of Butterfield closed down 25 cents at $19.25.

Belco Holdings also gained, rising 25 cents to finish at $20.

The index rose 1.31 percent on a volume of 15,391 shares worth $455,770.
