Host of cruise ships pay calls on Island

On Sunday the Horizon made her first arrival for the season out of Port Everglades with 1,320 passengers.She shifted from Hamilton to Dockyard yesterday and left for the Azores later the same day.

Meanwhile, Monday saw the arrival of another Port Everglades visitor and the first time arrival of the Century with 1,375 aboard.

She departed yesterday for the Azores.

The Norwegian Crown and Zenith also came in on Monday from New York with 1,002 and 1,428 passengers, respectively.

And yesterday the Norwegian Majesty sailed from Boston. She returns on Friday.

Today the 135-metre Seabourn Pride is expected with 95 passengers for a one day stop-over.

The upscale vessel will berth in Hamilton and is en route from Florida to the Azores.

And on Friday. Holland America's Rotterdam will also make a one day visit in Dockyard with roughly 1,200 passengers. She is en route from New York to Horta.

Private vessel visits to the Island are also on the rise with roughly 25 arrivals recorded by Harbour Radio last week.

Included among them was the 125-metre schooner Westward with 33 crew members.

She arrived from the Bahamas and departed for Connecticut last week.

And the twin-masted sail vessel Cassiopiea , also 125 feet long, is currently moored in St. George's.

The Ukraine registered general cargo vessel Kramatorsk made a brief stopover at the oil docks yesterday to pick up fuel.

She was on her way from Estonia to Baltimore.

In regular shipping news, the Oleander arrived on Sunday with 148 dry and 36 refrigerated containers, three trailers of steel, four cars, and mast rigging equipment.

And the Somers Isles came in on Tuesday with 119 dry and five refrigerated containers, 12 pleasure boats, roughly 35 bundles and packages of assorted building materials, and two commercial trash compactors.

Tomorrow the Bermuda Islander is expected with 96 dry and 20 refrigerated containers.

And on Saturday the US Navy ship USS Thorne will moor off the East End to allow roughly 50 people to board.
