UBP's West ready at the wicket
build a winning campaign in Hamilton East.
Mr. West confirmed he will team up with Government Sen. Angelita Fox to take on the Progressive Labour Party team of Renee Webb and Derrick Burgess in the key constituency.
And he said: "This is an important election and I'm ready to do my part to ensure that the United Bermuda Party remains the Government of this beautiful and prosperous Island.'' Mr. West -- Hamilton Parish-born and a cricketer and umpire in the area -- added that his life "in essence has been about an equal playing field for all.'' He said: "I have been asked to bat for our team and it is with great pride that I protect the wicket of the UBP.
"I have great respect for Premier Gordon and I believe in her vision for moving forward together. I'm honoured that she has chosen me to be part of the plan to implement that vision for the future.'' Mr. West added: "People who know me can depend upon me to be straightforward, honest and understanding.
"I'm committed to do my very best for Bermuda and the people of Hamilton East.
The Royal Gazette revealed last week that Mr. West was set to come in a few strokes ahead of golf champ Madeleine Joell for the nomination to run alongside Sen. Fox.
United Bermuda Party Hamilton East campaign chair, Kathy Gibbons, said the formal branch adoption meeting would not take place until the start of next month.
But she added: "The people of Hamilton East should not be surprised if they see Stephen and Angelita Fox on their doorsteps before then.'' Ms Gibbons said: "The committee is both excited and organised -- our goal is to win this election and the two seats in Hamilton East.'' Stephen West
