The picnic was one of several events in the Lions-Quest Life Skills Programme which has been introduced in all primary schools to improve students' social skills.

The event was part of the programme's Skills For Growing Report that encourages students from various schools to interact.

An Education Ministry spokesperson said the students, from East End Primary and Somerset Primary, had the opportunity to practise their socialisation skills as they shared songs and prose. They also learned new games to help them develop and improve relationships.

"One of the major aims of this unique programme is to nurture and foster within the students lasting friendships and to encourage the children to exchange notes, letters and artwork highlighting many of the concepts introduced in the Skills For Growing Programme,'' the spokesperson said.

Somerset Primary principal Mrs. Kalmar Richards and East End Primary principal Mrs. Cathy Bassett helped to organise the picnic.
