Russell hat-trick inspires Paget

Dennis Russell's hat-trick gave Paget an extra-time triumph in this first-round Shield match at BAA Field last night.

It seemed for a long time that Russell's 33rd-minute opener would decide the tie, but an 89th-minute equaliser by Ireland Rangers' Jonathan Bean, who forced home a Mathiyo Simons cross, necessitated an extra 30 minutes.

For Paget, who held Premier Division Dandy Town to a 1-1 draw after extra time in the FA Cup on Sunday, it was the second time in three days they had been forced to play extra time.

But they showed no signs of fatigue and their domination was rewarded with Russell's second goal, a neat header from a pinpoint Dwayne Bean cross in the 100th minute.

Russell, the former Social Club striker, completed his treble with a side-foot finish in the 105th minute from Omar Shakir's left-wing cross.
