Man fined for obstruction and due care
obstructing Police and riding without due care.
Timothy J. Lewis, 42, of Hill View Road in Warwick went through radar at 51 kph at 8.20 a.m. on October 17 at Crow Lane in Pembroke.
Police pulled him over and told him he had been recorded speeding. "No not me,'' replied Lewis, "I'm late for work,'' and he accelerated away.
Police saw Lewis weaving dangerously in and out of traffic but they caught up with him and signalled for him to stop, but he said: "I'm not stopping.'' This occurred several times before Police managed to grab Lewis' keys out of the bike's ignition, forcing him to stop.
Police moved to arrest Lewis but he again resisted and said: "You are not going to arrest me,'' and pulled away.
He was eventually subdued and taken to Hamilton Police Station.
Lewis told acting Senior Magistrate Edward King that he was in a line of five bikes travelling at the same speed and it was totally unfair that he was singled out to be ticketed.
Mr. King told Lewis that the maximum sentence for obstruction was a fine of $2,880 or a prison sentence of six months, or both, and the maximum fine for riding without due care was $1,000.
Mr. King then fined him $500 for obstructing Police, and $400 for riding without due care.
