Club alters music to curb violence
further gang violence.
Management at the Par-la-Ville Road club took the decision after a 17-year-old Hamilton Parish man was stabbed three times on September 3 in a suspected gang-related attack.
Owner Paul DeCouto has decided to ban hip hop music, which often has violent lyrics glorifying gang activity.
Mr. DeCouto said the club will now only be playing mixed music, top 40 dance, Latin and House in the future.
Mr DeCouto has taken out an advertisement in today's Royal Gazette which reads: "On Sunday September 3, a private function was held at our establishment resulting in an incident.
"Due to the recent increase in gang violence in Bermuda the Escape Night Club will be featuring entertainment consisting mainly of mixed music, top 40 dance, Latin and House styles of music only.
"From past experiences we are certain that our decision will deter violence and create a safe and friendly environment for you all to enjoy.'' BUSINESS BUC
