A student from Spanish Point has left to go sailing aboard the tall ship
Miss Marcy Judd, 22, left earlier this month for Grenada.
She was chosen by the Astrid Trust in Bermuda to join the self-training tall ship, which will sail through the Caribbean and on to England, with stops in Bermuda and the Azores.
Miss Judd, a former Mount St. Agnes Academy student, is a graduate of St.
Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia who recently returned from a language course in France. She received the Sir Harry Butterfield Scholarship and was a Government Scholar.
Retired British businessman Mr. Richard Thornton, who runs the Astrid Trust in Bermuda, said Bermudians could view Astrid when she visited in mid-April.
"With the continuing support from both the business and local community, we hope to enable even more young Bermudians to experience this incredible opportunity,'' he said.
Mr. Patrick Singleton, 19, of Southampton, returned recently from the last voyage through the Windward and Leeward Islands.
"Not only was the sail training absolutely superb, but it was a unique experience to be living in close quarters for such a long period of time with 26 other trainees from different parts of the world,'' the Saltus Grammar School graduate said.
"It was certainly the adventure of a lifetime for me and I did not want it to come to an end.'' GOING SAILING -- Miss Marcy Judd, shown here with Astrid Trust of Bermuda chairman Mr. Richard Thornton, is the latest student chosen to train on the British tall ship Astrid.
