Local athletes compete against US collegians

part of the Department of Tourism's spring break sports programme, begins at 5.15 tonight at the National Sports Centre.

Three US colleges from the New England area, Amherst, Wesleyan and Tufts, will compete alongwith a number of promising local athletes led by runner Michael Donawa.

Bermudian Branwen Smith-King, who is assistant athletics director and track coach at Tufts, helped put the event together and she will be here with her college.

Tonight's events include middle distance and sprint races as well as high jump, javelin, triple jump, long jump, discus and shot put. The first event is at 5.15 and the last at 7.55.

The three colleges will leave on Friday and two more schools, Colby College and Trinity College, will compete alongwith a Bermuda team.
