Ducking a road safety issue!
busy road.
Just ask some of our feathered friends down by the Devonshire Liquor Store off South Shore Road.
They know all about having a fair few feathers ruffled as they run the daily gauntlet of heavy traffic.
Now, however, their lives could be a trifle easier after special "ducks crossing'' signs were put up this week to warn motorists.
SPCA officials donated the two signs to the liquor store -- the daily haunt of the hungry ducks.
And they hope they will prove more than just a quack remedy.
Explained SPCA vice-president Ms Jennifer Paradine: "The ducks come across to the liquor store from a pond.
"The owner of the store, Mrs. Mary Fox, had started feeding them and thought it would be a good idea to put up the signs.
"The signs are in both directions, and are bright luminous yellow. I believe they are the first of their kind on the Island.'' She added: "So far the ducks have been very cooperative.'' The SPCA now hope motorists will be just as thoughtful...and take to the signs, perhaps, like a duck to water!
