flight to Jamaica was cancelled -- just three days before take-off.

The Meyer Travel flight, arranged to take reggae fans to the annual Sumfest music festival, was scheduled to leave Bermuda this Saturday.

But The Royal Gazette understands that the flight was cancelled at the last minute because of a lack of demand, leaving passengers scrambling for alternative travel arrangements.

One angry woman who had booked a seat on the flight said the abrupt cancellation was "indicative of Bermuda's poor service''.

"We were only given three days notice, so I lost my hotel deposit and it's too late to get a flight on a commercial airline,'' the woman said.

"To cancel on such short notice is just unacceptable. I gave my last deposit last week, and surely they knew by then that there weren't enough people for the flight.'' She continued: "There needs to be some social responsibility on their part..they are very silent and we don't have any recourse.

"The refund cheques were not ready, so we didn't even have the availability of cash if there had been a different flight we could've booked.

"It's very typical of Bermuda -- there's no competition, and the little man gets trampled.'' Meyer Travel owner Henry Hayward did not return calls last night.
