Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, said that at about 5 p.m. on June 17, Rowyn W.

Smith, 57, purchased items from the MarketPlace in Shelly Bay and left the store.

"He later returned to the store and removed a bottle of black rum from the shelf,'' Insp. Duffy said. "He then walked past a cashier and left without paying.

A staff member who saw him take the rum detained Smith and called the Police.

But when questioned at the Police Station, Smith insisted the guy never saw him take the bottle.

Insp. Duffy added Smith had a past conviction for theft. Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined him $50.
