Mr. Mills, 55, retired in June this year after holding the top posts for seven years.

A trained barrister, he will work mainly on corporate affairs, as well as matrimonial and civil law, and litigation.

He told The Royal Gazette it was a perfect opportunity to pursue a new career after reaching retirement age in the Civil Service.

Mr. Mills said the "seamless'' transition within the civil service when the Progressive Labour Party took power in November 1998 after 35 years of United Bermuda Party rule, and preparation for the Y2K bug, were among the highlights of his career.

He said: "When I was in the Cabinet Office I had the opportunity to take some time off and work with (former Senior Crown counsel) Brian Calhoun on a number of matters at Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal.

"I kept my hand in over the years and after 25 years in the Civil Service it was an opportune time to change directions.

"It has been a very happy adventure in the public service and my colleagues at every level were very supportive.

"They were a fine bunch of people to have and it was a privilege meeting them.''
