for further treatment on the serious ankle injury he suffered last August in a road accident.

The 26-year-old Boulevard playmaker saw his doctor yesterday and spoke to him about the possibility of travelling abroad to see a specialist.

"He supported it,'' Smith confirmed last night, saying that the matter of insurance coverage will also have to be looked into.

"I really want to go abroad to get a second opinion,'' Smith said. Smith's doctor confirmed that he is making good progress with the ankle, but just that it was taking a while to heal.

"I'm not really pleased with the way it's coming along, I thought I would be further ahead. I've been in a cast for about three months,'' said Smith.

Smith says even if the insurance does not cover the bill he is still determined to travel overseas. "If the insurance doesn't cover it, I will go on my own. I am determined to go.'' he said.

The leg is the same one on which he suffered a serious knee injury, though this time it is the ankle.

Pins were first inserted in the ankle but now a cast, which goes past his knee, is a constant reminder of the latest setback which came just over a month before the start of the current season.

Smith admits it has not been easy watching the team from the sidelines, especially during their recent slump, which he attributes simply to "a lack of goals''.

He added: "It's kind of hard watching games knowing I could be out there helping with things.'' One club who have their share of injuries this season are Devonshire Colts. On the day that Anthony Wilson played his first game of the season and Craig Smith returned from a long injury lay-off, midfielder Jay Bean became the latest setback.

"He had X-rays and the doctor feels he has some ligament damage,'' explained Colts coach Lorenzo Symonds yesterday.

"Jay said that he didn't feel that bad. He has a lot of discomfort and he couldn't straighten the leg.'' Bean was injured after a second-half clash with Earl Richardson during Sunday's match with Vasco, which Colts lost 2-1.

Another Colts player, defender Keenan Burchall, was reported to have gone abroad to have his knee injury checked. The talented youngster was carried off in the Martonmere Cup final against Boulevard in November and has been sidelined since.
