Bermuda Ladies Hockey Association action continued at Nationals over the weekend.

Cardinals scored identical 2-0 wins over the Swifts A and B teams while Canaries downed Bluebirds 3-1 in the A Division and 2-0 in the B Division.

After a goalless first half, two strikes in quick succession by Laura Bardgett and Maria Pichery wrapped up the victory for Cardinals A, although the Swifts defence held firm under pressure for the remainder of the game.

In the B contest, Swifts, whose side is made up entirely of Saltus schoolgirls, fielded a team with just one player over the age of 14.

But they failed to break through a well-organised Cardinals defence and goals in each half by Lise Baldwin and Catherine McGraey earned Cardinals a deserved victory.

Canaries and Bluebirds appeared evenly matched in their A Division clash but it was Canaries who showed more firepower with Helen Farrington and Emma Garon shooting them into a 2-0 lead.

Bluebirds failed to capitalise on several opportunities, and although Liz Stewart did eventually reduce the arrears, Canaries put the result beyond doubt with a third goal from Sarah Northcott.

Ali Cameron fired Canaries into a third minute lead against Bluebirds in the B match and it was Canaries who continued to dominate. But they had to wait until the 55th minute for a second goal from Carol Ferris to wrap up the match.

Players should note that Sunday matches begin at 10.30 and 12.00 noon.
